As you may notice to the left, I'm very fond of the old-school serial hardware. It's still widely supported in most computing systems, controllable hardware, and data sources.
I'm really fond of hiking, too, and using my old-school legs. OTOH, I'm very happy to employ the high-tech boots, undergarments, overlayers, hydration systems, and that sweet GPS.
I suppose there is a philosophy of sorts here. Keep what works well; Don't reinvent the wheel. But if you see something truly beneficial, adopt and learn.
